Pocket Friendly Summer Ideas

Summer vacations don’t always mean an expensive trip to Disneyland or a trip to the beach resort. You can have fun right here at home without breaking the bank.  You still have a few weeks left before the kids head back to school. Make the most of it for you and them with our pocket friendly ideas.

Vacations are about keeping the child occupied. Use this time to come up with activities for the child. Reward them with a little gift every now and then to make it exciting and something they look forward to.

Picnic – Picnics are a great way to bond with the kids and have some fun. Involve them in everything right from the menu, what they would like to do on the picnic and when they would like to go. Pick up disposable plates and cups with their favourite characters on it. Surprise them with a new outdoor toy. Pick from Frisbees, balls, catch ball games or a bowling set the entire family can enjoy.

Pool party – Beat the heat in a super fun way! Have a pool party in your neighbourhood swimming pool for your kids and their friends. If you don’t have access to a pool, ask the mums to send the toddlers with their bathing tubs or kiddie pools and have a blast in the balcony or terrace of your building. Get the kids some bubble solutions to blow bubbles and some rubber toys to play with. If your kids are teens doesn’t mean they can’t have fun. Organise a water balloon fight in your terrace and watch them squeal with delight. Throw in some water pistols.

Dance it out – Kids love dancing. They never get bored of it. Have a dance party every other day. You can play hit numbers on your iPod and dance away. Get them a plastic music instrument set, an empty jar with beans to make music and sing along. Have some bubble wrap you meant to throw away. Use it to stomp away as you dance to the music and make your own beat.

Treasure hunt – Gather your kids and his/her friends and have a treasure hunt. Rope in the other mums for help. You can have this in your neighbourhood garden or in someone’s house if it is large enough for the kids to run. With every clue leave little gifts for the kids to discover. Choose from a Shrek lunch box, Hello Kitty or WWE stationery set and Angry Birds water bottle. Reward the hunters with a fun meal complete with sugar packed goodies.

Entrepreneur – It’s never too early to teach your child the value of money. Help them set up a little business this summer. Something simple like a lemonade stand at the local fair, walking dogs and a bake sale are great ideas. Get them a brand new planner, a stationery kit, a calculator, piggy bank and a snazzy bag to get them started.

All these ideas are easy to do and extremely light on the pocket. Giftease also has massive discounts on children’s products this summer making it a sweet deal.

Summer fun doesn’t always need to be elaborate. Teach your child the simple pleasures of life.
