The person at the top in any team or organisation, commonly known as ‘Boss,’ usually has it the hardest. Sounds crazy? Actually it’s not crazy at all. Imagine waking up every day, getting dressed and walking into an office where someone hates you, someone is afraid you, mostly they don’t care and probably will never be your friends. To top it all your boss has to motivate you to perform better and learn more. Not a fun place to be in. Yet, your boss does this every single day. In return, you can definitely dedicate one day to appreciate their efforts. Internationally Boss Day is celebrated on 16th October. Put aside your differences and celebrate your boss.
Ensure you understand your boss’ personality type before picking up a gift. Here are some gift ideas for different boss personalities.
The motivator - If your boss is the hard working and always focused on work, then no day better than Boss Day to show your appreciation. Get them a cup or an engraved silver plate thanking them for their contribution in your career. You can also get them a cool globe with the message, ‘best boss in the world’.
The Organizer – If your boss uses excel sheets to make reports for everything, has copious amounts of post its and note pads and reminders to organise and schedule their work life then this one is easy to shop for. Just gift them more stationery and diaries to organise. They can never have too many. You can personalise it by engraving their name on the leather cover. If your team is pooling in you can even get them cool desktop accessories like a bean bag mobile holder or a golf bag pen stand.
The fun loving boss - If your boss has a great sense of humour, you can have fun buying them a gift for Boss Day. Get a hand drawn caricature of your boss with the entire team and frame it. You can also get a calendar made of caricatures. Use funny incidents that have happened with your boss and team mates. Great way to keep the fun times alive. A customized bobble head is another super fun gift to give. If customized is hard, a bobble head of their favourite character also lets them know how well you know their likes.
The Hitler – We will always have bosses we dislike. But if your organisation is celebrating Boss Day, courtesy demands you give them something so neither of you are embarrassed. If you feel like a hypocrite pooling in for a gift with them, politely decline. You can get them something simple as a card or something generic like a box of chocolates.
