In the heart of Bangalore city, I own a small start-up. This start- up has been my most cherished dream, and I am now turning into a reality. I worked with my previous organization for a number of years. I found my mentor, my business partner and some of the best members of my team over these years, who showed faith in me and embarked on the journey of making my dream come true (my IT start-up).
I loved my old work place, the MNC I worked with taught me a lot. I always felt appreciated at my work place. My every good action was acknowledged and the company and my bosses always took very good care of me. Thus leaving my job wasn’t easy.
When I started my company, I realized the one thing I must inculcate is to always appreciate my employees. We celebrate Diwali in office on the first day of Diwali, Dhanteras. This year we have the Diwali pooja, followed by a small party at my place. Since we are a small team, we are very close knit, just like a family. I have decided to get Diwali gifts for each and every employee. My business partner and I sat on Saturday to find the perfect gift for each of the employees.
We started by allotting a budget for the gifts. Then we made a list of employees and ideas we could consider for them. We surveyed various products online, looked for deals. We then looked for vendors who could deliver the product, gift wrapped and delivered to us. We wanted to give gifts that were fun.
For Rupa, our sharp accountant we selected a Titan watch, as she always is in a hurry. Her gift card reads: hope this helps you, as everyday you are shuffling.
For Deepak our marketing manager, he is a people’s person, and a party animal. We bought him a happily unmarried beer mug and a bonny boy liquor dispenser. His card read: This calls for a beer and also a party!
Shelly, our quiet data analyst, she got us into a fix. We really had to scratch our head to find her a suitable gift. We couldn’t come up with anything bright. That’s when we decided, she always wears these really nice cotton Kurtas, and so we decided to buy her a Fabindia Gift card along with a chess themed hardbound notebook. Her gift card read: (the book) for the analyst in you!
For Sneha, our Admin & HR manager, we bought a Pink bumpy ball, to work with when she is stressed, along with a street 9 flower up crystal necklace. Her card read: stay calm, stay pretty!
We can’t wait to see their reaction on the party to these gifts. I hope they are sober enough at the party to read their cards and drunk enough to trip on it. Happy Diwali!
